May 17 at 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM for Observation Only

May 17-19 at 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM for Full 3 Day Hands-On Workshop!

Are you ready to learn?

3 Days Hands-On Workshop 2023

Join me for a 3-day hands-on play date with clay n’ glaze!

Along with your creativity, and curiosity bring 3 bisque fired shallow bowls (approximately @ 5”W X 3”H ) and 3 shallow dishes (approximately 5”W X 2”H ). For this workshop to benefit everyone attending, please make sure you adhere to the dimensions of your bisque bowls and shallow dishes. The insides of these vessel become our canvases.

Cone 6 clay body is required! I much prefer porcelain though any smooth white stoneware will be fine.

Through the magic of glaze play, you’ll be introduced to unorthodox methods of glazing your work. Low fire, highly fluxed, reactive, and crystal glazes are what we’ll explore. There will be a list of selected glazes for you to use and choose from.

For example, learn how to pair Mayco’s Jungle Gems Cone 04-06 crystal glazes with Mid-Range SW series temperature Cone 5-6 glazes. All these techniques are designed to create a dazzling palette of finishes. Results have been described many ways: Luscious. Random. Runny. ‘Dippy’. Marbly. Amazing. I like to say “They’re so loose they slide.”

Since you’ll be learning to embrace glaze runs, you’ll then learn a variety of methods used to harnessing them. Hybrid crystalline catch trays, drip trays, wads, and stilts are all used.

We will also address and embrace the inevitable glaze runs! No worries! Diamond discs on the wheel, grinding wheels, a propane torch, and diamond pads will all be used for finishing work.

In addition, gain an understanding about the use of a spray gun as another option to glazing your work.

We will have a wet work demonstration to fit the glazing techniques utilized for this workshop.

My glazing methods can be used in bowls, shallow dishes, teacups, cylinders, and vases.

We hope to see you there!

Bring your enthusiasm and we’ll have a glaze load of fun.
